With the origin of cigar smoking still unknown, the oldest cigar artifact was found in Guatemala.  This  Mayan pot dating back to the 10th century illustrates a Mayan man smoking tobacco leaves tied together with string. The Mayan word for smoking is sikar, which is a feasible root word for the Spanish cigarro, where from the cigar got its name….
